What's the best recipe for winter excitement?

Combine equal parts snow, speed and courage... sprinkle in a little insanity, stir well with a shovel....
What do you get? The coolest new sport scooping the nation- Shovel Racing!
In it's inception, Shovel Racing was a competition among trail maintenance and ski lift operator crews, who discovered that riding down the mountain on their shovels was the fastest way to get down the hill at the end of a work-day.
Necessity gave way to sport in the early Seventies when workers realized that Shoveling contained the competitive elements of speed and danger.
It wasn't long before everyone got involved; ski-patrols, racers, and skiers young and old were lining up to try their hand at the Shovel Races!
Today ,the World Championshi
p Shovel Races are held in Angel Fire, New Mexico and have come to resemble something akin to a drag race on snow.
Please register with www.shovelrace.com to support our efforts in bringing the sport back to ESPN and inclusion in the winter olympics.
The shovels have evolved from the
standard #10 Grain Scoop Shovels, into Modified Racers that have more in common with a Stealth Fighter than scooping a sidewalk!
The competition attracts racers from all over the country who come to vie for the fastest times (and cash prizes) in a wide range of Age and Class Divisions.
